After a few questions and much study of this forum I reckon that I really improved my knowledge of the issues surrounding the K series engine.
Certainly it improved my paranoia re checking for water leaks. So much so that I was checking twice a week and I'm glad I did. So a big thanks to you all....
I found that the level in the expansion tank was lower than normal and after topping up twice I could just make out that it was leaking from the water pump. This is a sod, as due to the undertray, you can't really see that the bloody thing is leaking on the driveway....
As you know, when changing the water pump its a bloody good idea to change the cam belt and the tensioner and I also changed the alternator belt and the power steering belt as they were absolutely shot....I've never seen such badly worn belts - I've only had the car a few weeks so the history is unknown as such and I feel much better now about it.
Anyway, the point is, I'm no mechanic and have dabbled on and off (more off in the last few years) with cars, but due to the info here I tackled the job with ease and was done in just a few hours.
So again a big thanks for all the advice and prompt help and for those of you who can't be arsed to check the coolant levels...be it on your head!
