Hey guys, if someone could help or reassure me then that'd be great!!

Im really worried about my 1.8 overheating..

I drive along the motorway every day at 70 mph (sometimes up to 80 if overtaking etc etc)

The temperature on my car goes soaring when im at these speeds, however when I drop back down to 50 / 60 it goes back down to just below halfway, where it usually sits.

Its been doing this every day basically, since about a week ago, and whenever I finish my journey the fans always seem to be blasting away.

However, the other day I was sat in traffic for at least an hour, stop-starting.. And its was in the middle the whole time, not moving. It seems like its doing the opposite to what it should be if it was overheating..

Im thinking its just a sensor or thermostat inside the engine?

I know nothing about engines so if someone could help me that'd be great lol

(i do have a slight coolant leak but not major)

Check to see if you are loosing coolant.
Look under the oil filler cap for white gunge, if this is present then probable HGF.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem in my td4 and took the car to Guy Salmon landrover at Maidstone they said the radiator must be blocked and fitted a new radiator at just over £500 quid only to be told that after test drive it was still running hot, but they said the radiator was leaking, which I found strange as I was losing no water from the header tank what so ever. they then fitted a new thermostat £36 for the part and just over £600 for labour!!! Total cost with 10% discount £1000.36 quid. and it took from 0800 on tuesday till 14.30 on thursday Good luck with yours.
