You're absolutely right - on all counts.

Had tremendous sport the other day trying to get the **** to explain the
concept of a 'mobile' phone to this 'sad old bugger' that really was
pleased to hear the voice of another human if only they could make
themselves understood.

Never did find out what they had to sell - not even after 4 minutes <g>
