how big a job and how expensive to replace one or two turbos on these.
just been offered one with a turbo fault.dont know if the car runs or not.
im under the impression that its an engine out job.
anyone done one

It's a body off job on some of the TdV8's.:eek:
 
on the disco and sport with the TDV6 yes as far as iv heard its a body off job !

But dont think its that bad on the L322, still not an easy job though i think - the tdv8 might be different

I think it's body off for the 'Sport' model, dunno about the others ...

people forget to let their turbos 'cool down' by ldling them before switching off ...
 
Rrs and disco 3, 2.7litre v6 can be done with body on but fiddly the 3.0v6 diesel is body off the v8 can be done in vehicle the l322 is a monocoque body so its not a body off it a engine drop and I wouldnt attempt theses without a ramp ive done it with a ramp and its a ball ache being on your back is just plain daft all need to be done from underneath and through the wheel arch

Cool down is less of an issue with modern oils and machining processes. More to the point damn near everyone lives in a town or city, you shouldn't be be ragging a boosted engine so much that the turbo needs a cool down anyway. When I get within 5 miles of home I pretty much coast everywhere. The turbo is nicely cooled by that point anyway.
 
If you have access to a 2 post lift then these are not that hard of a job, I certainly wouldnt try and do a tdv8 with the body on.
They are however a time consuming job
Assuming we're talking about a sport model

Land Rover reckon to book 15hrs for doing both turbos :eek:

body off = 2hrs

doings turbos = 2hrs each

putting it all back, testing and bleeding brakes etc = 4hrs

road test :cool:

Not so much cool down in a turbo spins at 20,000rpms and shutting them off with out turbo turning slower is lack of oil in turbo that kills them
