Hi guys, I'm toying with the idea of fitting a tdv8 engine to my 2006 110.
Apart from the obvious engine requirement what else am i going to have to consider?

I'll need the following, mostly from a breaker-
Engine
Wiring loom
Engine mounts
Transfer box will be the original defender lt230, with different ratio
Gearbox maybe original defender r380, or a 4hp24 from a p38
Exhaust manifolds (custom exhaust will be made)
Gear shifter
Intercooler and other engine ancilliaries
Fluid reservoirs will probably need to be fabricated
Chassis will need modification to mount the tdv8
And ideas or suggestions?

Not worth the hassle, or cost involved IMHO

The engines arent exactly cheap to start with, then you will need an aftermarket management system, such as bodylogic, which will cost more than a 2nd hand engine

You will need the 6spd ZF box that is bolted to the engine already, and have your LT230 converted to accept the g/box splines...
And the auto selector mech.

You would proabably be best buying an acc. damaged car to start with, so you know you have everything. Pete @ Bell Auto's is doing something similar in a 100" hybrid, but there is a massive amount of time, and money involved...

If you do go ahead with it though, good luck :)

They are fly by wire AFAIK so you will need the pedal box as well.

A lot of work but would be amazing if you pulled it off :D

I've been told that the 6 speed box fitted to the RRS is too complex to control, so options are a P38 auto box wich can be dne, with an adapter plate. RRS chan drive transfer box would be removed too. Original lt230 can be used. Id be interested to know how a r380 box would stand up to the torque, with an uprated clutch. Bodylogic controller would be required too. I guess the radiator / intercooler would have to be a custom job, along with other ancilliaries such as fluid reservoirs etc. I think it would probably be a good idea to buy a breaker as suggested, use the bits I need, then break an sell the rest on...

I suppose the other question is will the engine fit?!
Its not much bigger than a TDV6 and they've been done!

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

Seriously  have you seen one out of an engine bay? they are HUGE :D

The V is a different angle making it wider and obviously its a cylinder longer. We only fit 4 of these to a crate whereas we can get 6 TDV6's on one. It will probably go but i doubt it would drop straight in.

I would go the TDV6 route as there are more engines available and it will be a smaller package.

Bell autos has done both TDV6 and TDV8
