Hi guys

As this is the second motor to start to give up on my '01 110 Tombraider I am thinking of putting some other more robust motor in place.

Has anyone ever tried doing this and if so what motor was donated please? I am thinking of trying to fit/bodge/jam-in a Transit motor if I can sort out fitting and drive etc.

Cheers

Dont think its a common fault. You dont switch your engine off and on every 10 seconds in traffic do you? Because thats a good way to waste starter motors.

Whats the milage?

Starter motors are a common fault on the TD5's but his question wuz about WIPER motors.:D:D:D

I'm on my second motor on our '06 Defender. The first one ended up with about 2 inches of play at the wiper arms. What actually fails to cause this?
As it was replaced under warranty I never got to see the old part. Maybe it's not greased properly from the factory?

Mine has done 60k - without a single problem (they all come in bunches:rolly:)
As I have a day off on the morro I will just check that it is not the rubbish nylon drive gear come loose as per someone ele's post a while ago - see, someone does read through a pile of the older ones.

As I mentioned above - the gears are made of nylon and as you also say, is the lube good from time of manufacture? I re-packed the spindles last year. Still goes clunk most of the time.
