Hi everyone,

It feels like every 5 minutes im on here to post about another issue, oh the joys of land rover ownership.

I recently replaced my park switch on the wiper motor as it had clearly failed, stops wherever it likes and would blow a fuse after heavy use. Had the dash out swapped it over but now it seems to have failed again after just a week or two of use, its not my only car and even then is used at most 2-3 times a week for short period's of time.

I want to check that ive installed it correctly when I next disasmble the dashboard, any tips or advice?

Yes, that sounds like Land Rover windscreen wipers to me. For a number of years I was locked in mortal combat with my windscreen wipers as every component failed. The motor, the wheelboxes jamming or the cog wheels coming loose from the spindles, the switch on the column, the relay and probably a few other things besides.

I'd just bite the bullet and get a whole new motor unit. If they've been allowed to overheat or partially burn out they're never terribly reliable and can blow fuses and leave the wipers in odd positions on the screen. Another culprit is the wiper relay, which is worth replacing as this can cure a variety of odd symptoms, including failure to park. People call it a relay but in fact it's a lot more complicated than that, with all sorts of stuff inside to go wrong, including printed circuit boards as well as a relay.

Fortunately, I've now enjoyed a period of two years of reliable windscreen wiping. But that's after going through quite a number of components.

Oh how I envy you, I just got my wipers fully working, they parked in the right spot everytime, and my washer jets worked finally. Now ive got to take it apart again, bloody truck, waste of my life. Maybe I should go buy something sensible like a Toyota?
