I have an issue with my Discovery 2 TD5 where I had a while ago an increased oil level due to probably fuel getting in the engine. We planned to change the injector seals but then had white smoke and stopped immediately. The oil level was far above the dipstick and emptying it we had almost the double. We changed the injector seals, also the copper ones, removed the oil put new one in started it but the engines runs very rough now and have no or less power. Checking with a Nanocom we see a disbalance. Injector 1 is around 21 in idle mode and the other ones try to compensate. Cleaned then the harness plugs and the connector of the ECU as there was some oil but not really excess. I felt small improvement after that but I can be wrong. The engine still runs rough. After looking in my history I saw the balance looking good in the past, but already had 6 months ago an increased disbalance on 1 which I didn‘t took care off as she was running smootly and had no engine problem. We had also a new fuel pump after she was brooken, had to put a new seal on the fuel pressure regulator as he was leaking afterwards too. But the she ran perfect.
There is now not really blue smoke or white and some black smoke by accelerating but running rough. And reading the Nanocom there is no improvement. I ordered a genuine harness and genuine new seals and to this replacement too. But what could be the cause? Anybody ideas? I have been reading so many things… and I really hope not to have a crack in the engine.

I am no expert, it could be a head gasket problem. Have you tried a compression test on each cylinder. As I understand it white smoke indicates coolant in the exhaust gases, which would suggest a gasket problem. Good Luck

Move injector 1 to one of the other cylinders, if the imbalance on nanocom follows the injector you probably need a new injector. That’s probably the best case scenario.

We renewed the harness. The imbalance is still there but less. All now original LR parts. Viewing with the Nanocom the value of injector 1 is 16 instead of 21 at idle. But the engine still runs rough. We’ll do maybe the injector swap and see what happens. But any comment could be helpful as we are getting a little bit desperate.

You could try Edd China's idea, he removed each injector and put it in a plastic bottle, then turned the car over to see what the atomisation was like, after about three he found it, it just sprayed a jet, as opposed to nice mist. I can't remember whether he had it refurbed or replaced, but might be worth a shot

Here an update of our problem. We removed the top cover as at the dip stick and the oil cover we have white fume and looking to the engine without the cover we see white smoke each time when injector 1 sprays in the engine. So I'm not sure but I believe we have or blow-by, but the we should see black traces as from burned fuel (which we don't see), or a cracked gasket but then I would like to know if this causes an increase of the oil due to the diesel getting in, or we have a cracked head. Does anybody had comparable problems? Or do you have ideas? I would like to upload the movies but I don't know how.
