Just bought my first Disco (W Reg TD5) and am trying to fit an auxiliary 12v socket behind the drop-down panel under the steering wheel. I can not get to the back of the centre console mounted cigar lighter to splice into the wires, so can anyone please advise me of an easily identifiable place where I might find a permanent 12V supply that will take a few amps okay?

The safest way I sugest is to run directly from the battry via a fuse to ensure a good supply.

You could try the accessory socket which is for the towing point. Behind the rear lights I believe there are two connectors (maybe one each side?) one of them will have a 12v feed for the caravan connector. Depends where you want to have the 12V supply tho I guess!

Matt.

Thanks for both replies - marvellous. However, rather than make a long run up, can anyone tell me how to identify any suitable wire behind the drop-down panel behind the steering wheel - near to the fuse box?

Go to nearest car parts outlet, purchase 12v circuit testing screwdriver, anything from 99p to 2.99, and then stick key in ignition, put crocodile clip on to key shaft which gives you an earth, then prod whichever wire or plug you find. No doubt you will find a few spare underneath.

Oh **** ye i forgot, sorry Matt.
I do f**k all for weeks, then in a 24 hour period i attend a wedding, send out 17 copies of this Disco manual, and start a book club/pool on the site i mod.
Never ends i tell ya, never ends.

I shall pm you my inside leg measurement for your pleasure like you asked immediately Matt.
