Been following these chaps on FB for a while and came across this -

td5INSIDE Hybrid Turbo release - Australian Land Rover Owners

Don't know about you guys but I find this rather impressive especially considering the considerably lower cost of around ~£600 compared to that of the Alisport VNT/VVT Turbos of ~£1200.

I've sent them an email asking a few questions though from what I have read thus far im strongly considering one later in the year.

In regard to EGT temps they where hitting 750c, within the tolerance of the TD5 manifold...

The good bit -

Dyno results for 2 different setups:

223bhp/517nm

232bhp/488nm

EGR Blank
Straight Through
De-Cat
Allard Performance Intercooler
Silicone Hoses
TD5inside Hybrid Turbo + boost box (included in the price)
K&N Filter - personally don't like these based off what I have read
 
So how much do you think you'll be spending with these guys? And are you fitting yourself or paying for the luxury?
 
After a bit of research it appears if I want to run that kind of power with any kind of reliability reinforced head bolts will be required at a painful cost of around £900... So currently on the back burning but when I do buy it I will fit myself, turbo is an easy enough job. 3 bolts on the down pipe, 3 bolts on the manifold (If I can get them out!) then running some new hoses etc... Any trouble ive got two mates who build Japanese drift cars so plenty of turbo experience! lol

Be interested to see where you read this, I've been running a hybrid for 2 years without any head gasket issues. BUT, I've also rebuilt my engine within that period due to another issue... So it might be that an older engine that's not been worked on could suffer?

From a few members on here, if I dont need head bolts then this is back on! :D
 
So TD5inside are yet to reply...

So I have emailed Alive Tuning to ask about headbolts see what they say...
 
TD5inside replied - They said they have been using standard headbolts and a standard manifold with standard bolts. Max EGT readings they got where 750c pushing hard up hill with no issues. They have also shipped out a number of turbos to Australian users, so will see what they say after a few months of use.

Alive replied - It is suggested that enhanced head bolts are fitted if you want to constantly use all the power. I take that to mean either race trucks or just constantly driving hard.

Based off that I reckon if you stay just below or at ~200bhp-ish you'll be alright.

So my plan would be to do the following -

Deweb and fit the Alisport enhanced manifold bolts - Not that expensive to do and probably save my manifold from warping
Evans Coolant - Not much of a difference but should keep everything running a tad better
Madman EGT Gauge - Keeps an eye on EGT temps, can back off if I hear the alarm
Oil Pressure Gauge - Important as this should give me some early warning of any potential head damage etc...
TD5inside Turbo - Set to a sensible 18psi
Have Dynachip fettle the map a bit to get the best gains from the above.

That should give me a nice balance of power/torque, driveability and reliability. I dont race my landy and I dont do any extreme off roading so everything should be alright, but for any reason I keep exceeding oil pressure or EGT then its easy enough to revert back or lower the power. Ideally the above should bring my TD5 to just below the 200bhp mark which should keep everything 'good'

Any comments or criticisms are welcome :D
 
How you going to fit the EGT probe, onto the EGR blank? I've seen people say that can be a bit close to the head.

You can get some nice T's to get the oil pressure from the same port as the stock oil pressure sender, but just be aware that LR used a couple of different threads so best to check what you've got on before comitting...
 
I shall. Do not want to drill and tap a cast manifold! So will fit the EGT inside the EGR blank
I had a tubular manifold which had an EGT boss welded on at the collector, shame I bent it within hours of fitting, having the gauge hooked up was great.

I'm going to get a boss welded onto my down pipe so I can get the probe up and running again, will make the bowels far less queasy than drilling/tapping the hybrid or allisport manifold (which has no EGR port).
 
Sounds good but I was always under the impression EGT sensors are better pre turbo than after? Im weary of dropping £700 on the Alisport manifold only for it to crack when it hits water!

De-webbing mine will be free then adding the Alisport bolts should slow warping and even if it does a new manifold is £100 or a skim for £20 odd, plus with the EGT gauge I will be able to back off if I get too high. Much better financially if you ask me. When it is off for what ever reason I would like to see if the ports in the manifold are as open as the can possibly be, if not ill take a little material off there too.
