Evening,
I was hoping to get my Td5 defender Stage 2 remapped (software only), but when I spoke to my insurance company they would not insure it remapped. I specified the increase in power (when asked) would be around 30% based on 'forum' reports and a bit of digging.
I have since contacted a more specialised insurer who quoted an increase of £200 above my current insurance quote (I'm 46 with no claims or convictions).
Have others come across similar increases in premiums or even refusals?
My concern is its potential saleability in the future if it has been remapped (not that I intend to sell anytime soon!).
I do a lot of miles in this car, and I'm sold on the useability benefits of a remap.

Regards.

Your tuner should have tested each map on each type of vehicle on a dyno so should be able to tell you the gains.

I’m pretty sure most people don’t declare it, you’d have to kill a lot of people for them to start digging into the ecu software for answers. The gains in power aren’t enough to be the cause of any accident anyway. Engine BHP and power at the wheels is vastly different on land rovers. Even the most highly tuned vehicles kicking out 250bhp at the engine are likely only 150bhp or less at the wheels if you are lucky.

This is what confused me when the insurance company said no. I have owned cars before this that chucked out 220bhp, My last 'normal' car was 150bhp and yet the insurance was far cheaper.
It smacks of the company i'm with seeing a 30% increase without context and don't want to get involved.
I now have to weigh up the cost of the remap, plus the insurance increase minus the fee for cancelling my current policy..

I get most likely don't declare. Its not hard to plug a computer in to see if it has been, if it came to it. I couldn't afford the consequences if they did... The insurance company would find any excuse excuse not to pay up too.

Update. New insure provider used at double the cost of my original. But it's also including agreed value which I didn't have before.
My previous insurer wouldn't insure anything more than a 20% increase in power.
Stage 2 remap going ahead.

Sounds good, I think! Where are you getting your remap done?

Local agent for Alive remapping.... Along with a number of other more essential work.
It's been an expensive few months, but hopefully mechanically it's sorted.
