Hi all,

Long time since I posted but have just got my old TD5 back from my son-in-law after 2 years of abuse. Had the Disco for over 11 years before and it performed brilliantly in harsh overlanding conditions during that time. I gave it to my son-in-law, he was needing a van for his furniture business, in exchange for fitting out the interior on a Spinter camper conversion. I had kept the Disco in fine fettle mechanically even if the bodywork looks like it has been through the mill. Anyhow I've got it back now and need to fix a few problems. Firstly 2 days before I was to pick it up I was told that the gears were hard to select. From his description it sounded like a gearbox selector bush had gone awry. I duly ordered one from JGS and went to pick it up. I had a horrendous drive back home, about 12 miles, in low box 'cos I couldn't get low gears. Anyhow striped it down today and found out I was right about the problem but a bit worried by what I found. There were 2 tiny bits of the bush visible in the top of the gearbox with the gear selector ball floating free. My question is 'has anyone had a total disintegration of the bush and if they have do the bits find their way to the bottom of the gearbox'. My first job now is to drain the gearbox and see what comes out. The gearbox by the way is a recon unit from Ashcroft about 7 years / 50000miles ago.
