Hi everyone Merry Christmas and all of that thanks to everyone who helped me on my last posts

Moving forward I have a discovery td5 2001 15p which I got about a 8 months ago fitted a new chassis in the meantime but since iv had it cold starting had been abit hit and miss sometimes (very rarely) it will start on the button without letting the glowplug light go out) and sounds sweet although there was a bit of a tapping noise when cold every now and then which I thought injector seals, changed them last night how discovery 2 .co.uk says to fired her up shes a bit quieter now but still struggles to start..

When to put the key in position 2 I can hear the pump, its not noisey or whining but when I got the landy the bloke I got it from left no fuel whatso ever in it so maybe it sucked crap up? when I go to start it it turns over quickly it has a brand new battery over all better than standard spec.. anyway when it turns over ill put my foot on the throttle I bit and it fires? I can see its also had a new fpr and sensor. I have put on a new etc sensor to no avail.. anyone who can help me to what to look at now would be much appreciated.. thanks, lewis from devon

Just to say it doesn't smoke from cold unless I floor its and start it, engine doesn't use water or oil and once its started she sounds sweet... when starting from cold ie left overnight it will turn then the moment you touch the throttle it will start

you shouldnt touch the throttle when starting a td5, as that tells the ecu you ran out of fuel and to run the out of fuel start procedure,
you could try purging the fuel system a few times and see if its any better

Thanks Johnlad I will try that, iv only ever done the procedure once will try doing it a few times over, disco is else where at the min so will try and report back

put a new air bleed valve(WJN500110) in the rear outer connection of the fuel filter head then purge it again

Hi guys thanks for replys, we have already put in a new air bleed valve in a while back but didn't make any difference, we have done injector seals to no avail :(.. johnlad I tried bleeding the system a few times but doesn't help. fuel pressure reg has been done I can see its fairly new, injector seals looked sha**ed but like I say she runs sweeter but cold start is still an issuse shes only done 90k, dads 1999 td5 has done 150k and starts on the button:confused:

Just to mention she used to start then sort of die then turn the key and shes fine, but after the chassis change my fuel filter housing snapped around the bolt hole on removal I had a 1999 fuel filter housing to hand so used that, its weird because after the chassis change I purged the system and she fired right up.. how can I tell if the starter is playing silly buggers on a cold start? because it almost used to start better with my old battery

Hi had very similar problems to you for two winters. Summer starting was perfect but as soon as the temp dropped would not start replaced everything to no avail nothing on diagnostics .Last September gear box stripped all the teeth on lay shaft so replaced box clutch etc and when I disconnected crank sensor found one wire down to last couple of strands into plug so when cold crank sensor did not send signal to ecu thus no start but after warming up a better signal was sent so no more probs until next cold start Found that front indicator connector same as crank sensor so old connector was replaced with extra length wiring (all soldered) and Disco has started ever since hot or cold.I really hope this is your problem and unlike me you wil not be driven mad:hysterically_laughi

Hi Thanks again for replying I have an update:boom:

I blocked the egr and disconnected the maf went out the next morning and she fired first turn of the engine?

I got a new crank sensor and upon removing the old one I can see its been striked by the fly wheel on one side.

I have no choice but to start using her now as my 2004 l200 just through a conrod out the block :( enen though it got serviced every 3k

Right guys I have an update...

She now starts better than before

still from cold it starts and sort of dies then turn the key and shes running like normal.

Starter motor has never been changed could this be messing up cold start with dodgey signel?

Went to my friends last night about 6 miles away came back home let the idle for a couple mins the idle goes up and down very small and slow do I get the injectors tested? what else would cause this to happen?

And just to say, still not smoking and started first turn this morning

Hi guys thanks ever so much for your help

She started first turn this morning, yesterday my dad said he needed to turn the key a few times before she would run :( new simens maf on order, what makes me think the starters draining power because when been left the other day it started right up after all day but almost the injectors were tapping like timing was out... after about 20 secs of idle noise went.

when its hot the idle move up and down ever so slightly and im wondering if its related?

My friend came over yesterday with a nanocom and the injector balances were fine all out of double figures, I did have a fault saying road speed error?

Anyway guys I love this disco spent so much time/money on it just hoping its starting well all the time soon

check fuse F2 in engine bay... didnt you watch live data with nanocom to see the air flow and manifold pressure?

Hi thanks for reply I will check fuse in engine bay, the guy who had the nanocom said everything looked fine.. I saw injector balances from cold so maybe I should take good run before hand then look again?

hopefully going to check pressure at the fpr soon

Another thing if I dip the clutch in 1st then let back off the engine revs a few times like grr grr grrr then idles
Bearing in mind this disco was on the Shetland from 2005 until I got her could it be a mapping issue that know one has sorted?
