Hello there,

Just purchased a 2001 (51) Discvoery TD5 just looking through some of the common faults, and planning on doing some preventative maintenance so to speak, I havent got the service history yet that's being printed off for me, whilst having a good look around the engine by the inlet manifold I can see the stamped number on the heads but there are also numbers which have been wrote on using a pen, orange colour. could this possibly indicate that's it has been changed at some point or would this be a factory thing?

Sorry if this is a daft question to many but if we dont ask we dont learn.

Thank you guys!

Not sure on the orange numbers. Never seen them on any other td5 block.

but make sure you get the EKA code.
Have a spare working key.

Cheers

Its the magic get you out of jail code that you use to get into your car and drive away when the fobs battery or the immobiliser system has a headache.

Be gentle with the drivers door lock when using the key as they can get a bit tight and the internals can snap easily.

Cheers

Thank you for that information!

I have attache a photo of the numbers on the head excuse the poor lighting.

FYI, the engine number iirc is on the other side of the engine , really hard to see .

Cheers

I'm going through the paranoid part about the head cracking haha, I believe mine is the 10P engine VIN is 2A745224 which is believe falls into the plastic Dowels problem.

Orange / yellow numbers written in pen are normally parts supplied from a dismantlers. They mark them up as they strip the cars so they know what they are from/for.

plastic dowels arent a problem its the head moving due to getting too hot,if it hasnt cracked now its unlikely too, unless over stressed

Thank you guys for your replies I do apologise for my amateur question haha I absolutely adore the thing, it's on 114k miles just plan to do some maintenance just keep her going, I would like to give the oil pump bolt some attention after reading about that.

That is what I first thought so chances are its had some sort of work done to the head, I would presume.

That is great to hear, I wont be ever using it for towing or hard labour. more for just something to enjoy and keep running
