any of you good people help. td5 defender 110 02plate. loss of power on inclines more noticeable in higher gears. just noticed over last couple of weeks. no black smoke evident from exhaust, regulary change filters.. 113k on clock. any advice on where to start.. any advice would be appreciated.

plug it in and check the maf readings, check for boost hoses etc leaking although you may get black smoke of it looses it all due to over fuelling.
Any brakes dragging, and fuel pressure problems. mine did the same when the pump and fpr packed in.
I've noticed the same on mine recently, but I'm putting it down to the new roof rack I've fitted

Yes, the roof rack takes the edge off the top speed on mine too.
Anything that interrupts the fuel flow and pressure takes the edge off the performance too. If there's any way of getting a fuel pressure reading, it's well worth doing. I've just bought myself a fuel pressure gauge for exactly that purpose as it's such a key diagnostic issue on TD5s.
If the MAF is malfunctioning, performance can improve if you unplug it. It's the cylindrical thing the air goes through just after the air filter box on the way to the turbo. If things get better when you disconnect it then it's in need of replacement.

As above, if you have access to a fault code reader it's helpful. When my crank position sensor was on the way out I used to get 'high speed crank error' messages. When it's oil in the loom I get 'peak charge long' and so on.

A blocked CAT was the cause on my 2003. Diagnosed by putting a boost gauge on the inlet manifold.
Only boosting at 10 PSI. Seemed fine until you got to 60, then ran out of go. No guts in CAT now :)

Check the turbo actuator is operating freely.
