Bought my first landy in dec. and it looses water have done roughly 8000 miles . have recently had the head gasket replaced , head skim etc due to the loss of water and the engine hydrolicing on starting 1st thing in the morning.but it is still loosing water ? My dad also has a td5 defender and his has never lost a drop ? any advice appriciated . also there is no trace of a water leek ,having to replace 1 ltr every 300-400 MILES!

1ltr every 300-400 miles ain't really that much, have you checked the rad/filler cap for leakage. i.e good rubber seal etc. if that seems to be ok i would suggest you get your cooling system pressure tested.

could be the cold plug. those copper plugs at the water jacket below the engine. i've changed mine already. it's a real pain to remove as you need to remove things like the alternator and bits and pieces around the engine block to get to it.

cost only $4.50 a piece in sg, but heck a lot of labour charges.

could be the differencial foo foo valve situated near main the sprocket adjusting spring doo hicky. i did one on a outboard v-9 diesel not so long ago
fooking expensive but only take 30 secs to change..
pressure test will tell where yer leak is so you don't have to guess or go through every conceivable part that could leak. assuming you have had a good visual inspection with the engine hot and running before hand

All you have to ensure is that the valve recess is maintained by removing an equal amount from the valve seats.
