my td5 has done 101,000 miles. I have been advised to re skim the head and have a new gasket fitted to pre empt any future issues. It's absolutely fine now but do folk think this is a good idea?

you only skim the head if its warped slightly or is pitted/marked

I thought LR advise that the TD5 head shouldn't be skimmed but needs replacing if necessary?

I know people do and with success but only when there is no option.

Save your money for when things actually break down. Preventative maintenance is good, but that sounds far too excessive and even slightly risky!

Yeah, sound like a bit of "if it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is" to me.

+1!
101K is nothing mileage wise.
If you want to do preemptive work, do injector seals, but otherwise, put spare cash into a "when it breaks down fund"!

Strike whomsoever gave you that advise off your Christmas card list. ;):D
