Hi all I'm looking for some advice. I recently purchased a 110 td5 03 plate and only recently I noticed that it did want to start when the handbrake lever is off/down and when its on it will start but then on occasions if the handbrake is released slowly just before the light goes out on the dash the engine light comes on and it will cut out ,??
So ive found myself fiddling with the handbrake when trying to start off to prevent it from cutting out
Im so dishartend at the mo as its my 1st Landy and this has just starting happening ,,
Any advice is greatly appriciated

Ive heard there is a wire that wears and shorts on the hand brake, might be that. You could try a search on here as there is a thread somewhere. You could also go to the afore mentioned section and say hello as it is the correct etiquette for all LZ users. 3 posts and 3 questions? say hello wont take a mo.

id be checking the earth straps , body should be earthed to chassis and transmission and battery, sounds like your is using hand brake cable as an earth

I'm thinking the same as jamesmartin, check all your earths. And im not sure what all this introduce yourself crap is about either...

I had this problem on a TD5 Disco once, was the battery earth strap and the engine was earthing through the hand brake cable (and melting it !)

Introduce Yourself

[smile]its tha rulez[/smile]

Take a boggo standard battery boost cable (colour dont matter) and connect it from the battery -ve (important you dont get this wrong) direct to the engine block. If your problem goes away then you need to clean up all your earth strap connections as the handbrake cable will eventually overheat (because it is working as the main earth) and can cause a fire.

Bit sharpish when asking for help...... but I don't understand the 'intro' demands either. Just do it maybe....? Make sure you have a letter from your Mum and 2 bank references??!!??:D

Sounds like you got an instant fix of the prob too - filed away for future reference when mine does it eventually....... Cheers, A
