Hi All,

I'm planning on fitting one of these to the firewall of my disco 2 behind the turbo area

To do this I'll be getting a couple of custom hoses made up by DPH with the ID reduced from 19mm at the rocker cover / depression control valve to 12mm at the catch can

Will this changing ID cause me any trouble / restriction? Wouldn't have thought there's anywhere near enough flow through the system and valve for it to matter but want to be sure before I start spending!

I'm also planning on using plastic shower poufs as a home brew baffle, has anyone got any experience of doing similar?

Thanks for any thoughts

Adding an oil catch can will definitely help keeping contaminates out of the intake.
For my V8 I've got a small piece of those steel wool pot scrubbers shoved into the case which collects the oily mess. I don't know how well the plastic shower loofah will hold up under heat.
This is after I removed the steel wool piece...

What sort of ball park temperature do you reckon it gets up to? I've seen some concerns around the steel wool / scrubbers breaking apart and allowing bits of it to go back into the system but equally if enough people run it without problem its probably just the internet coming up with an issue that doesn't exist

If you've been happy with it I'd be tempted to follow suit and go with steel scrubbers to ovoid a chance of a melted plastic mess in there

Just out of interest why do you need to fit the catch can? Is it worn and breathing heavily?

To be honest I'm actually really pleased with how little its breathing given its 160k miles old

Main reason for doing it is that I'm about to do an EGR delete so I thought I might as well go the extra mile to minimise all the crap getting thrown into the intake. That as well as I like giving myself jobs / fitting shiny things!

I'm hoping once I've done these two bits the intake will just clean itself over time, I've had a good look and there doesn't seem to be much build up - do you think thats realistic or am I being over hopeful?

Tbh it’s a diesel, a tiny bit of oil vapour into the intake is literally not going to hurt it in the slightest tbh but it’s your money and vehicle to do what you want with it

Fair doos, you're probably right - its hardly a highly strung race engine lets be honest!

Regardless, I like the idea of helping it breath that little bit cleaner so am still going to go for it as long as the setup I'm planning isn't going to birth any problems
