Hi guys, I'm new to the forum but not landrovers. I've owned several over the years rangeing from p38, defenders and discoverys. I have recently acquired a disco 2 td5 auto with a gear box issue that I'd appreciate some help with.
Whilst driving along, the selected gear light on the dash flickered between DRIVE and SPORT several times, then dumped all of it's oil out of the box and lost drive. Upon quick inspection it looks like the leak seems to have came from the top of the gearbox, drivers side? Is anybody able to shed some light on this before I start ripping it appear? Thank you in advance

at a calculated guess, i would say the oil cooler pipe union on the gearbox has gone. i don't think its a difficult job but i've never had to do it. yet....
 
Thanks for your reply, I was thinking (hoping) along the same lines, its just hard to see due to lack of space down the side
 
to do the top cooler pipe i remove the transmission mounts and lower the rear of the box to gain access
