Hi,

I have a 1999 110 TD5 which is a pig to start after it's been run for 30mins+ and left to stand for 30mins+, yet it will always start in the morning after neing left all night. Same symptoms regardless of outside temp and humidity.

So far the following has been tried, with no solution yet :(
  1. The crankshaft sensor has been replaced (no change)
  2. The ECU was swapped out by garage (no change)
  3. Checked earth leads on starter motor (no change)
  4. Removed oil from ECU connectors (no change)
  5. New Battery (see below)
The new battery seemed to fix the problem for a week and then it started happening again.

The reliable check has been, starts in the morning, (a) drive 25 miles to work (b) start it at lunchtime and starting problem occurs. It can take 2-3 mins of cranking it over (bursts of 5 seconds cranking) before it will start. A couple of times it has eventually run battery flat. Then starts first time jumping from another car.

It feels electrical, in that the new battery seemed to fix it for a while, but not sure how to prove this is the case.

Suggestions of other things to try gratefully received.

Regards

Tim
