Guys, bit of advice if you would.
Most of the time the TD5 starts on the button, however occasionally it fails to turn over, or very slowly, and then not at all. All the dash lights dim or go out as if the power is being sent to the starter when you turn the key. It does not do it all the time, just (It seems) when i need to get out quickly !!!

The battery is new and has one of those green lights to show it is fully charged. Jump starting does not seem to help. Bump starting works and as soon as it has been started once it is fine.
If it did not have a new battery I would go for that, but it seems there is some sort of bad earth. I have checked all the usual suspects, battery/starter motor connections.
I have been reading on here that it is sometime the solenoid connectors.... would this cause these faults as well ??
Any advice would be most welcome,
cheers

It could be the solenoid contacts but my guess is a dodgy engine earth.
Use a booster cable from the batt -ve to the engine block and see if it spins over better each time. If so you have the answer.

Replacement solenoid contacts are about a tenner on fleabay but often if they are not too badly pitted you can clean and file the old ones up which will give you a few more years use. Thats what I did two years ago because I couldn't wait for the new contacts to arrive and its still working. Probably jinxed it now though but I've got the new ones handy just in case.
