hi guys
im sure a lot of you guys have remaped your td4 s are there any pit falls can it cause any problems in the future
i remapped a mondoe a few years back & ended up wanting 4 new injectors but every one said the remap would not of caused them to fail
im planning on remapping the td4 in new year to help with performance/economy caravan pulling/ just wundered what your thoughts are on this please

cheeper option I used to have a "tune box" on my old freelander and I got through turbo pipes also they were full of black sludge also you have to tell your insurers who hike the price up so I do not bother any more I have also heard of people who have other tune boxes and then had things like injectors need replacing is it all worth it? I ask

Another vote for Synergy. Remap is more or less permanent where the Synergy, as well as being adjustable, is also easy to remove.

I can't recall hearing of anyone on here who has had bother with a Synergy unit.

The black 'sludge' in the turbo pipes is caused by oil vapour mixing with the carbon-laden exhaust fumes from the EGR. Solution - de-activate the EGR, or better still fit a by-pass.

Increasing the power by any means will show up weaknesses in any part that is not up to scratch.

The original black rubber turbo hoses have a limited lifetime anyway before they become porous or split - even without any increase.

TBH so long as the engine is in tip top ie: no boost leak / injectors working well / good oil / clean intercooler / VCU in good condition the TD4 should pull a 1.5t caravan no problems - trust me ive towed mine to Italy and back at speeds you shouldnt do ( at one point had a little race with a FL2 ) I do have a tuning boxwhich does give you a bit more power but you do suffer (in my experiance) worse MPG and for me I couldnt see any real benefit

Is this a Synergy box you couldn't see any real benefit with, Labiarat?

I've pulled a 2 tonne trailer to Greece and back, both with and without a Synergy2a+ and found a big benefit. In fact I would go so far as say that I wouldn't dream of not having a Synergy box.

It's no fun in the crawler lane on long, long hills with the big-wheelers zooming past you.

The Synergy especially the latest model with a dash switch is a must for me - I turn it to the Eco setting for the long flat boring motorways in the Balkans, and turn up the power for the Austrian Alps. Still get around 35mpg overall for the trip.

Without a trailer my TD4 is now a flying machine, giving well over 40mpg at legal speeds in the UK.

A full remap wouldn't give me the variability or 'switcheability' for the different uses I put my Freelander to.

Mine was chipped back in october 2001 and where I noticed the huge difference in the beginning I'm now used to it. I still remember my wife noticed the difference as well and also that the car and the autobox liked and still like the extra power. Re mileage, I dont know, I guess that if you still drive at the same pace as before you have fuel reduction but if you use the extra power the fuel is the same as before but with better performances. But that's my idea.

actuaaly im not quite sure what my tuning box is TBH im gonna check tonight when I get home. I dont think its a synergy though.

Maybe the cheaper ones arent quite so good?

didnt get chance to check last night as missus went out in it! ---- Englishbullterrier did the remap guys who did your FL rolling road it to confirm figures? it was one of the to do list for meto check what my tuning box was actually doing

Hiya, quick answer is no, they have chosen not to invest in a 4x4 rolling road. However, they will guarantee their results if you choose to get it done.

I was really surprised with the massive pulling power and better acceleration.

Suggest you call Darryl and he will talk you through it. ALso take a look at his site.

Cheers..........ebt
