My 2004 TD4 is overheating and loosing a lot of fluid. Steam comes out but it is difficult to see where from.

The oil is black and no oil residue in the overfill tank.

Also the car is using more oil, has less power and is blowing more smoke than it should. I had one air pipe replaced some months ago and things improved for a while.

Could there be a link between the problems. Advice on what to do would be great.

thanks
J

If you have steam you obviously have a water leak, you may not see it because it turns to steam in a hot engine. Start it from cold and examine EVERYWHERE to look for drips (pump, hoses, radiator etc)

Losing power could be an air leak or maybe even something as daft as binding brakes which would cause overheating but you would usually spot this

It's definately worth getting a sniff test done on the water to rule out the Head gasket

Thanks Jailon,

I started the engine cold and water is spiting out from the front right hand side of the engine. Access is poor in this area and I can´t spot the origin of the leak. If you have any idea of what typically goes in this engine that would be great.

thanks

Right as in the o/s/f?

The Waterpump is on that side of the engine i think. Not really visible except from underneath looking up.
