My 52 reg TD4 just conked out while driving slowly down a lane. It felt like the timing belt had gone but know they have a chain. Wouldn't even try to start again. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start looking?

Thanks for your constructive input Mad Hat Man, you should take to the stage with comedy like that...
I have now found out it is the fuel pump so having that replaced and hopefully that will be the end of it.

Thurs two low pressure pumps on yer model ,1 int fuel tank un tother under rhs side er motor bay if its the wun in the front thets suspect ,wack it wiff er hammer as they go soft [intermitant] if it starts then you know its the front wun or put yer hand onnit wiff ingition on shuld vibrate fer 12seconds then stop. . . .un dunt take no notice er floppy flippy eeze er wude tratter boy
