Hi There, 3 questions -
I have been doing a bit of digging and found that some oil in the air intake is normal... mine is a mess - oil crusted all over injectors, oil coming out at the inter cooler join - can be seen running down lower front right of bumper, and some where the intake joins the manifold. The engine does not blue smoke and uses about 1 liter in 6 months or so. From digging around here i need to replace the depression valve filter first, then clean out all the intake system (looking forward to that). Other options are turbo bearings on way out, however the mess would indicate this has been happening for years (I only have the FL2 for about a year and this is the first service) so i think they are ok. So first question is, is there an on line repair manual - how to go about stripping all this out?
Second is, an EGR blank would this help?
3rd question is about black smoke - the wife normally drives it tiddling about the place, when i get in i work the engine a bit more and the plumes of black smoke are, well lets put it this way if i was behind me i would be rather upset. After a clear out the revs would be unsettled - it could drop to 500RPM at tick over but would normally recover would a carbon clean help here? i did put injector cleaner through but no change. and I belive it happened under power twice, blood drained from me as i suspected clutch slip - but the motor still pulls a caravan no problems and i went hard up a hill in 5th all ok...
Thanks for reading

Stewart

Sounds like the crankcase filter is blocked and you have a boosted air leak, which will be a boost hose or the intercooler itself.
I'd go though the induction system carefully checking all pipes and clean out the inlet manifold too, along with the EGR valve.
An EGR bypass will now fail the MOT, of it's spotted by the tester.;)
