Hello to you all,

Just wondered i have a td4 es and was having abit of a problem with the water in the engine,I have now fixed the problem but a mechanic says these engines common for the head gasket going. Is this true as i thought it was on the petrols not td4. Apart from that i think the engine is fantastic. Cheers for any comments.

I think that mechanic heard a (true) rumour about Freelanders being vulnerable for head gasket problems and therefore mentioned the whole range of engines as having that problem. As far as I know you are right and only the 1.8 petrol suffers of that (and some KV6's coming into the picture as well these days) but for the BMW M47 engine which is in our Td4 I have not heard of any HG problems (so far ?? )

I agree with everything that Willo says. I have heard no reports of TD4 head gaskets going. This said, it doesn't rule the problem out.

Cheers chaps,

I thought that it was the petrol engines. I understand that you can never say never.

Thanks again.

Greg
