OK after nursing my ailing in-tank pump it's finally packed in. I posted a while back about stripping down the sender unit to clean out the pump which worked for a while but obviously not a long term fix.

On reading on here I found a post by Mcgyver http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/td4-tank-pump-possible-alternative-170170.html

He replaced the actual pump in the sender unit with one from a Fiat. this got me thinking, instead of buying the complete sender/pump unit at extortionate costs for the genuine LR item why can't an aftermarket pump be fitted?

It's obvious the OEM ebay pumps are sub-standard otherwise they'd last a lot longer. So fit a good aftermarket pump into your old sender unit makes sense to me....

Secondly, if an aftermarket pump is fitted surely it could be of a higher flow rate/pressure without affecting anything on the fueling side especially as the stock items seem only just adequate for the job?

I'm looking at the moment for a pump of similar dimensions to the original one but I could do to know the flow rate and pressure of the stock item if anyone knows.

Cheers for any assistance

Edit, just seen in Rave the LP pump is rated at 240 litres per hour @ 2.5 bar.

One from a Peugeot fits apparently. It's a search job but I do remember seeing a full "How to" somewhere.

Thx Allan although the more I discover the more it makes sense to install an uprated pump.

Currently i've found this pump Walbro GSS340 Fuel Pump which is the same length but slightly smaller diameter than stock. The pick-up filter is another £5.

I haven't ordered the above yet but will be doing so soon and I'll post back my findings. I'm guessing at the moment, but for a third of the price of the Sender/pump unit from LR i'll have a better pump assembly.

BTW for anyone reading this the Walbro pumps are rated for use with petrol, diesel and bio-diesel.
