Hi

i have a problem !!!!
i have been having lumpy tick over so i did the following

ive blanked egr valve
changed crankcase breather
cleaned all the air intake twice which solved the problem the first time and second time round, but now its back again..
after checking the 3rd time im still getting oil inside the air intake and egr valve!!!

any ideas please??

Danny

this car is driving me nuts

if i clean the air intakes and hoses it runs fine.
if it was the turbo wouldnt it run the same cleaned or not??

Have you run injector cleaner through it. Also have a very close look at the intercooler pipes ans any braided hose that goes to the EGR Blank off and the turbo vacuum - any holes or poracity in these will cause it not to run properly - I have had the same problem.

The intercooler hoses on mine were covered in a fine mist of oil on the outside! Changed them and all was resolved - they must have been porous.

It seems to me the engine is only happy when everything is right - it is not very forgiving.

if you have had a lot of oil through the system due to crankcase breather blockages etc then it may be worth taking out your intercooler and flushing with petrol..it could still be full of gunk and contaminating the system downstream of it.

Thanks for the replys guys.

had a look again today the air intake doesnt have as much oil as i thought hardly any to be fair.
ive check the outlet @ the turbo it has a little oil init is this normal??

so i now have a erratic tick over and white blueish smoke on start up.
it runs fine when driving.

i unplugged the maf sensor didnt seem to have any affect at all could it be this??

thanks again guys

It could be the Maf but they are expensive so absolutely make sure all hoses ate either new or in very good condition then search here for checks etc before you go spending.

You can go down the injector route - engine running take the plug of each in turn - if it gets worse it's not that one - if you get to one that makes no difference then you could have a blocked injector. I believe doing this will bring up faults on the diagnostic later which can just can be cleared.

To get to the injector plugs it is easy just lift off the cover infront of the air cleaner - 3 bolts if I remember.

Getting the maf off is more difficult but still easy except for the security bolts - need a special torx thing

hi

ive used injecter cleaner and pulled each connecter off and all make a difference, one not as much as the others but still different..

ive checked hoses seem to be ok.

what makes it worse the erratic idle is intermitent

i aint changed the oil filter could that be the fault??

No doubt oil filter can affect it. I do think that all hoses have to be perfect - I have had a 2000ish rpm flutter and there were lots of contributory factors including small splits in little hoses etc

Electrical cleaner on all the plugs etc.

Have you tested the leak back from the injectors - a bit involved but doable - you need to make up a test rig - pipe and plastic bottles. I am going to do this next - got the bottles from Boots!

when u say all hoses you on about turbo intercooler hoses?

Yes but there are smaller ones that link to the EGR and others that come from the turbo actuator St the back of the engine - 1 to turbo 1 to black bomb shaped thing on right side of engine - I found 2 splits on this one which was the cause of black smoke and lower power and increased fuel - it seems the little hosed have an effect and are not dramatic like split intercooler pipes. Basically look overvalue the engine and check out every braided cloth covered rubber hose for damage or splits or blockage.

Another thing - is the cover on your air cleaner fitted correctly - check the lip at the back is inside and not over the top etc - it needs to be airtight.

As I said I have found them to be unforgiving engines - when the work they're good but mess up the set off and they throw a wobbly literally!!!

will have a scan tommorrow the egr valve is blanked off.

But have you blocked off the small hose that goes it normally?
You have to block this hose - my EGR bypass has a fitting for doing this others have used something like a bolt and cable tied it well

yeah it is blocked off.

thanks for your comments

would like to fit a synergy 2 with new maf but cant really till i fix this fault.

Try without a new MAF first it will compensate for an out of spec. one. I have one on mine - works well but will use mote fuel if you crank it up
