Hi All,

2004 TD4.
Does anyone know if the engine ecu can have the golw-plug temperature on time changed, via the obd2 interface? :)
I have been doing some experiments on the hardware and with a 1k ohm resistor in series with the engine temperature sensor the glow plug light comes on and the engine starts first time. This leaves the temperature gauge just off the stop, as the CAN reading is upset.

If the 1kohm resistor is not in circuit the car will start from cold but takes at least 4 or 5 revolutions, plus fills the garage with white smoke.

I have also not managed to find a list of the TD4 temperature sensor resistance values with temperature. (only got the V6 values, which may or may not be the same). Any body know?

Regards. Ian.

Ian - i am not to sure about remapping the ECU for that task but if your having to fiddle around to get the glow plugs to activate it sounds like your air intake temperature sensor maybe faulty?

Might be a shout to check and replace.

If your car turns over like that and then puts out white smoke,(Unburnt fuel) then there is something wrong with it.It could be allsorts of things, but what you are suggesting isn't going to fix that - only cover up the actual cause.Better to fix the original problem really.
