Hi guys. I have a 2003 td4 with just over 100k. I've noticed a coolant leak over the last wile but never seen any water under. It was normally dropping from max to empty header bottle and when refilling was always just under the level of the coolant bottle.

However today I've realised the leak has got worse and now creating a nice wee pool of coolant under the car. If I look from the coolant bottle side down into the engine to the rear of the air box I can just see a drip hitting the surface below (assuming to be the cross member or sump guard).

Can't see where the leak is comming from though.

Any ideas before I start investigating deeper. Is the heater matrix in that area (no water in the footwells). Is there anything in that area that is prone to leaking and toncheck first?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Search for the 'rave disk' download and you'll get a LR manual on how to fix yer Freelander.

Thanks for that. I've searched on the phone and seen a rave download so will link to it in the laptop to downlod. I take it the rave cd covers all engines as opposed to an individual one for each model?

I'm not sure if myncar has the fuel burning heater (assuming no as if it's the same as the old merc I had the car does not have a separate switch to get "instant" heat into car).

Based on not having the heater it looks like the leak is in round the water pump area. Are these prone to failure (bearing in mind the milieage) and are they difficult/expensive to replace. I've got access to a car lift so access under ain't a problem.

Just updating everyone. I managed to have a look under the car and traced the leak to one of the hoses. The hose coming out of the passenger side bulkhead and teeing of toward the coolant bottle direction. This hose runs above the steering joints where over time the turning of the steering was rubbing against the hose and had cut a small hole in it.

Took it off cut it and fitted a piece of copper pipe in line which has sorted the problem out. I'll pick a hose up but that will stop the leak in the short term hopefully.

Thanks for the advice.

Paul.

Oops, sorry for the double post. Came back to computer and saw it still on post reply screen and though I'd forgot to send previously.
