2 bits if wood to hold the belt in to the top 2 pulled a 24mm ringspanner a bar with 2 screw clamp and string to hold pressure on spanner when on tensioner. Worst part removing plastic panel then lining up the belt around the pulled. All done now
Yes it can be a faff to hold back the tensioner, as you say above 24mm ring socket, i use an long aviation ring spanner which has been ground down to reduce the thickness of the ring head, you can also use a little wooden wedge to aid the ring staying on the bolt,

Two of my spanners i have cut off the open end so a little extension can be added if there is need for more leverage, the ones with orange paint on.

Always change the compressor belt at the same time, what you don't want is to go back in at a later date because that belts has started to wear.

My aviation ring spanner fits fine on both Wife's & Son's TD4 with noi modifications, grinding etc.. How the engine has been placed on the mounts also makes a difference. When we did my son's water pump & stat, we slackened all the mounts & re-settled the engine in the correct place.
