Hi.

My names Chris I been on here all morning looking for advice but still a little unclear.

I have a 2005 td4 auto .
On start up there is a very loud droning noise which also lasts for about ten seconds after ignition and engine turned off .

But the main issue is a strong smell of exhaust fumes from the minute the car is started inside car outside car anywhere near car . It smells like exhaust .

From my research on here I thinking it's a fuel diesel heater located near left front wheel but unsure it could make such a loud noise and such strong exhaust smell.

I obviously need to get this looked at but primarily I need to get the car somewhere and wont drive it now its doing this, this morning .

I have found a fuse for pre fuel heater but it seems this fuse also is linked to transmission cooler and engine management. So dont want to pull that.

I have also found in handbook a supplementary fuse box with 3 fuses 2 x 30 amp and 1x 15 amp this seems to be for vehicles with frong heated screen too so unsure if they are related to diesel heater.

My main goal is to stop these exhaust fumes ..obviously the webasto or whatever it is requires work servicing..

But in the mean time..what can I do on ny drive today to combat these fumes.

Thsnks in advance for any help I receive .chris

You can pull fuse 5 in engin bay even though it say ECU as answered by Nodge only lately search last page
Hope that helps last Wednesday

Thanks pulled fuse 5 no noise now
exhaust in front of front wheel has stopped producing smoke but still smells of exhaust gasses everywhere ..any idea what has actually failed
When u smelling these fumes?...is it serviceable. I have read the post from Wednesday thankyou for your assistance on this regards Chris

The FBH needs cleaning by the sounds of it. They are a bit noisy though, although if the fan bearing has failed they can be very noisy.

Just leave fuse 5 pulled out, it hardly makes any difference to the heater in the UK anyway.
