Hi all.

I think I may have a slight problem with my freelander, when I brake the TC & HDC! lights both come on briefly and then go out? They are both amber, does this indicate a fault?

most people here reckon its the brake switch behind the brake pedal.
I'm glad you started this thread right now, because I think I might have found the cause of my intermitent thee amigo display.
I opened my o/s drum brake and found the cylinder was leaking/had leaked. So I think it 3a's could be telling me theres a leak or there's air in the system or one drum is slipping.
I'm sure people might think thats a stupid idea, but I've got to change the cylinders anyway. If it doesn't cure the 3a's I wont lose any sleep over it.

I thought you'd left us MHM ,its good to see you back in the gaylander room.

Well after a quick read, Thanks for giving me the push to use the search facility :fish:

Its seems that hopefully my 2 Amigos is just the brake light switch, as it only happens when braking. If not that I will check my ABS sensors and wiring, if that fails I will use the search facilty again and then start worrying about ££££££££`s.

Well I removed the brake pedal switch the big one, pulled out the plunger , and refitted it, Still the same problem 2 Amigo`s only when braking thou.

Today replaced my brake pads, as the LHS were nearly down to the metal, due to a sticking caliper, Freed up caliper, new pads fitted and so far no 2 Amigos?

Could low pads have interfered with the ABS sensor, or was it something to do with the heat build up, with the sticking caliper? Or has knocking the hub around cleared a bit of dirt?

My 2 Amigo`s have gone Adio`s!!.................So far anyway.

Just an update on my 2 Amigo`s, they are back!!

But again only when braking, and not as often as before, some time they are there other not at all, very strange. I think I may buy a new brake light switch, and see how it goes.

Any one any suggestions?

yes and knackered cylinders, worn drums I dont know.Since I changed the cylinders, one was leaking,I've not seen any amigo's.Its worth having a look.Get a big philips screw driver it will help wd the screws and fix a vice grip tightly on the driver. They dont need to be over tightened for the next time they need opening.

Please open brake switch one more time. I had the same problem and after opening and stripping brake switch I found that due to burn out of stop light contact the second one used for HDC have bad contact too. All cleaned by use of fine (800) sand paper and two amigos are gone for 3 months now. My switch part No is XKB100170. New design switch Part No XKB500120 is available and it also requires YMQ503280 wiring harness

Cheers dude!!! I just opened it up again, but this time I took out the plunger so i could get the whole mechanism out. There are also 2 connectors at the bottom, as well as the slider, one of which is very pitted and worn out, i just fixed it tempary with a blob of solder, but it will need to buy a new one at some point.

Thanks again mate, your a star.

I now have 3 Amigos, but not due to my brake switch repair with a blob of solder, as this all checks out.

So nearly a year on and my solder blob fix on the brake switch is still working:) Just thought I`d let you all know:D

Found this old post while looking for something else, its amazing what you dont remember:eek:
