When i bought my 01 rr 4.6 she was like a church mouse the engine was almost inaudible.
Now she makes a slight tap tap tap only when HOT

it disappears if i raise the idle slightly TAPPETS or LINERS?

i used 10w40 shell helix hx7 and a MANN oil filter.

Not tappets.
May or may not be lifters.

Oil pressure is missing from your calcs.

Good call. The oil pickup has an o-ring that can lose pressure if it is leaking. Bit of a faff getting the sump off though. Engine needs to be right up out of the way to clear the drag link etc.
