Just been out to look at the 200Tdi in the Ninety as it has started making odd noises again, so retimed pump and just looked at the tappet clearances....which were all over the place!!

Rockers 5 & 8 have had to be adjusted to the very end of the adjustment screw.!!!!!!!

Could it be the cam follower brass thingy has snapped, no odd noises....any way to check without taking head off??

you can check the followers with by removing pushrods and using a torch to look down at them,if push rod pushes through follower it tends to increase the gap ,if push rod is sat wrongly on top of follower and not in its seat it reduces gap,if adjustment varies much on the tappet you have a problem

Worth lifting rocker shaft off and checking non of the push rods are bent this will also allow you to inspect caps and followers.

Thanks for the replies chaps...first thing I did was lift the rocker shaft and checked for bent rods....none found.

Will be taking the shaft out again and taking a look inside....When I lifted the rods, they did seem to be seated correctly in the follower....will re-check and update.
