Hey guys,

some of you might know me in the Freelander section but apparently, my mum has a Range Rover and I'm wondering how easy it it to remove the Tape Player and fit a CD Player (Not one from Land Rover though!) in it. Reason I ask is that the tape player's front panel is sort of customized fit.

The Range Rover is a R Registration, 2.5 Diesel DT engine Turbo. The model is similar to the Range Rovers seen in Tomorrow Never Dies (James Bond Film).

Hi SappyTech

A friend and I removed the stereo in my P38 and fitted a Blapunkt Woodstock DAB set last week. It was not a major job and took us a couple of hours that included fitting an integrated handsfree as well, the existing stereo was a bit of a bugger to get out. Hope this helps.

I've a related question - I heard that you couldn't just remove and replace the headunit due to something to do with the amps in the doors?

Is this true, or have I dreamed it?

We removed the stereo and connected up new one no problem. Think amps in doors only apply to cars with Harmon Kardon upgrade where you'll need high low converters. Mines is working and sounding like a dream. You can also buy retrofit side panels to fill the gap left when the old stereo facia was removed £19 from Halfrauds....

I've got Harmon Kardon tweeter covers, does that mean I'm likely to have the upgrade?

I'm not to sure Rav I don't have Harmon Kardon but I'm sure there is something on rangerovers.net about upgrading and what you need if you have Harmon Kardon,

Hope this helps.

John

Yes, you have the Harmon Kardon sound system. Upgrading from that isnt straight forward as you have read, you will also loose the steering wheel controls. To be honest, I think the HK sound system is bloody brill so why you would want to change it I dont know! Others think its rubbish and needs to be changed etc so its up to you really, personally Id say keep the HK setup.

Thanks for the info - one final question before I stop my hijacking of this thread, does the HK system have a telephone mute ability? I will be installing a Bluetooth Handsfree kit at some stage (when I get a minute!!) and would like it to mute the stereo when answering or making calls....

Yes, see...

Range Rover Mute Lead: dashmount

Thats a complete lead set that mutes the radio and puts the sound through the speakers. I use the one for the earlier Clarion HK system with my Nokia CK-7W car kit, works brilliantly.
