I know that this has been covered before, but some time ago now and the images and template that where in the original topic are no longer online.

Can anybody at least tell me (and others) the dimensions and correct location for making the necessary "cuts" to get access to the fuel sender pump in the tank on a 2.5DSE?

And you can check the brake pipes that run over the tank for corrosion as it is not uncommon and easyer to replace with tank out.

I've just dropped the tank this weekend to swap the fuel pump and its not that hard at all. The problems I have had is lack of knowledge about couplings and trouble getting the locking ring off. I really wouldn't want try and shift that whilst in situ. The only thing is to get the car on ramps to give you the height to get the tank out from under the car.

Plus don't forget to drain the tank as much as possible then pump/syphon out all the remaining fuel as its a bit heavy with a couple of gallon sloshing about.

If you must butcher it i am almost certain i have seen Canyons template somewhere on the net. Someone has copied it and put it up on another site. But for the life of me can't remember where i saw it.

I just put the Range Rover in extended height mode, then supported the tank and cradle with a trolley jack and length of wood, lowered it enough to release the pipes and dragged the tank out, without the need to drain in, till it was out.

Does it come out from in front of the rear wheel? I just pulled it out from the back as there was just enough room between the diff and the O/S suspension.

Did the same as you. And the filler is about 1/3 of the way down so it must be about 1/2 empty at least otherwise it sloshes out as you manhandle it.
