Hi.

I bought a cable kit to fix the regulator on my 2000 Mk1and after a delighfull time spent extracting the reg from the tail gate I find that the spool that the cables wrap around is damaged.

I don't mean the grooves on the spool that guide the cable its the walls/sides that are supposed to stop the wire jumping off.

Is it worth persevering or should I bite it and buy a complete unit?

Depends whether you have bought just the cable kit (The one you have to glue the nipples) or the kit with the ready made cables, plastic guides and new spool.
Personally, I bought the cable only kit and I thought it was too much of a p**s about, binned it, put it down to experience and bought the cable and fittings kit. Have used them on both the rear side window and the tailgate without any problems.

Just the wires but I may have found a complete set locally, I'm going to check them out tomorrow.
