I am trying to fit the above to my 1995 Defender 110 but having wired it up as per the following:

and the photo here
Dual-battery systems | Drive Out
when tried to start the car there was 'nothing' i.e. it was if it had been immobilized - I then pressed the 'link' button on the controller and was able to start the car etc. When I switched off after a while I heard a clunk from the solenoid. When I then went to re-start the car I had exactly the same i.e. nothing until I 'linked' the batteries again - surely this is not right?
In terms of wiring it is as per the TMax wiring diagram except I took the lead into the solenoid direct from the '+' of the main battery (insted of part way into cable to alternator as shown on wiring diagram) and I linked the '-' from the aux battery direct to the '-' of the main battery (instead of to an earth) - both as per the photo on the link above.
After the above experience I had another look at the photo on the attached link which seems to show the 'jump wire' not connected so tried it like this - all was well i.e. the car started etc however there were no clicks form the solenoid so I am not sure if the system is working at all?
Can any body help...
Many thanks
Nick
