Hi, the swivels on my series 3 are showing some pitting, is this an MOT failure? If so what parts would i need to overhaul?

Thanks in advance

I dunt think havin pitted swivels is a MOT failure, But oil leakin from them defnitly is !
I think Paddocks do a kit off all the bits yer need to rebuild em, includin new balls

or you could just drain em and fill with 'one shot' grease also availible from paddocks. if the pittin int too bad just go fer the grease and yer should last a while longer.

I think the oil leak shouldn’t be a problem, but using grease in the swivels is not the answer, the drive shaft has unsealed bearings which rely on the oil to lube.
Grease stuck to the inside of the swivel isn’t going to do much.

hold that line a minute.................

The swivel housings should contain an 80W90 or a 90W oil. A lot of older housings however loose this oil as either the oil seal is worn or the chrome swivel housing is pitted. Best is to remedy this by fitting new parts. This might, however, not always be possible.

Land Rover made a special SEMI-FLOWING grease designed for this application.
