I was driving along one day the engine was sounding very sweet when suddenly I heard a rattling sound coming from the engine l stopped and identified it was coming from the top of the engine, I called a guy we know around here called Tommy land Rover ( This is Wales) he said sounds like a swirl chambers come adrift you need to get the Head off before it Breaks up. Anybody else had this problem 2.25 diesel series 3 with a lot on the clock?.

Seen it several times. Probably a new swirl and rollpin, and a composite gasket will sort it.

Don't drive it until you have sorted it, it may do more damage.

yes its not uncommon especially with cheap hot spots,often means a new piston and head, but you dont know till you look
