Hi again, does anyone know of a spare wheel carrier that doesn't need lots of holes in the rear door. I see some swing away carriers have plates to put in the door then I assume an attachment through the door to the carrier.
Show me yours? Cheers

Most swingaway wheel carriers have a plate which pick ups on the existing holes in the rear door..

If you have a new door without holes already in your choices are to drill holes in the door or use a pick up version.

However pickup versions are illegal for a rear door if it has seats in the rear as the wheel carrier has to be open first from the outside.

Choices are in descending price order, Kaymar from Outback Import in France, Sonic from Allisport or Nakatanenga from 4x4 Overlander. None of those require holes drilling in the body work.

The Safari Equip wheel carrier for pick ups require holes drilling in the bodywork.

Swingaway wheel carriers without drilling body bodywork, but picking up on holes in rear door your choices are the Nakatanenga or Safari Equip single pivot wheel carriers.

Picking up on holes in rear door and drilling holes in bodywork? A myriad of versions available from Safari Equip, Mantec , Britpart etc etc.

I've got one of these:

There are some pictures of people fitting it here.

It mates up with the existing holes in the back door, and the bolts that fasten the rear crossmember to the tub on that side. You have to drill some holes in the top of the rear quarter panel on the driver's side to fasten the top hinge to the bodywork. I was a bit apprehensive in drilling holes in a perfectly good panel, but then Land Rovers are full of holes anyway and if I ever wanted to take it off I could put bolts in the holes with a dab of matching paint on the heads, or even buy a new panel.

I have the extreme carrier also can't recommend it enough and reasonably easy to fit.. had mine galvanised looks good and also stopped the vibration and rattles from the back door , I added a gas strut after as well which helps keep the door open ,,

They're a bit dear, but those Extreme 4x4 ones are nicely made and spread the load on the rear quarter panel. There are even grease nipples on the pivots. I've got the one with the Hi Lift bracket on so there's somewhere to put my jack as well as my spare wheel.
