Hi folks
Hope you are are all well and stay that way.

I have been off of here for a while. Landy has taken a back seat to decorating and other rubbish,
Series 3 swb 1983 a put back together with new parts what my eldest son left before he gave up with defender disc brakes fitted to the front.(Heystee conversion)
However.

Question 1.....the PWDA unit NRC4480 is rusted to hell absolutely finished. What did you do when fitting new brake pipes?
Did you get an alternative PWDA or just leave it off (as was suggested on an old post on another forum)

Question 2...... did you keep the same master cylinder or get a later replacement with a sensor on the resevoir. Does the defender m/c fit?
The original m/c is gone and was a dual with servo.

hope this makes sense
cheers Peter

I kept my PDWA and wish I hadn't. Next time I have to sort out the brakes I shall just put in a 4 way splitter.
I refurbished my PDWA only for it to leak out of the electric switch so I had to solder up that switch after knocking out the gubbins to seal it up. Just had it all back together so didn't want to have to redo all the brake lines.
As to the M/C if you've got discs on the front then I don't see why a defender one shouldn't work as long as it will fit on the servo. You can't just swap a def. pedal box into a series without quite a bit of buggering about.

Do Heystee not recommend a particular master cylinder?
Hi Rodeo and Blackburn, thanks for the reply.
Heystee supplied the swivel house and hub for Defender discs and calipers.
They did not mention that it was required to change the master cylinder or anything else.
Regarding the brake lines I wil probaably put new Series ones back with a union in place of the pdwa.
cheers peter

From the Heystee website.

*Please keep in mind, that you have to consider the complete brake system when fitting calipers and discs onto your Series Land Rover, I advise to copy the complete brake system, including master cylinder, brake line layout, valves and rear brakes when converting to disc brakes.

Heystee suggest you use a Defender MC, if you have a SWB and rear drums they recommend NRC9529.

Hi Citizen,
Thanks for the input.
I had seen that info a long time ago but couldn't find it again.
I have since searched on their site and found it,

I was under the impression that a Defender M/C couldn't fit onto the servo of a series 3

that is why my son and I was going to use the series m/c. On further investigation on their page in an instruction manual pdf it states this
(clipped)......We advice to use the early Defender 90/110 system layout (disc - drum setup see Defender workshop manual for more info) master cylinder (NRC9529 or NRC8690) and Series III pedalbox + brake servo (STC1816) or our 8 inch servo (020.001.00) assembly together with this disc brake kit.

I have the series 3 pedal box with servo AEU 1043 which is STC 1816.
So it seems I can use the Defender M/c.
Can you see anything different here ?
cheers Peter

Correct, you should be able to use the Defender MC with the Series servo, I have the opposite, a Defender servo and a Series MC so it should be compatible. I would assume there are subtle but important differences between a drum and disc MC.

I guess the only other thing you may want to consider is the larger servo Heystee mention, I think you can have quite a heavy pedal with the small Series servo.
