Hello all and thanks in advance for your help!! Anyways, we've replaced the air suspension compressor 2 years ago along with both airbags. Everything has been fine except for the drop I have experienced yesterday. I am so low now and it wont pump back up. My friend who likes to tinker with cars came by to take a look and found that the 'cannister' located to the right of the air compressor was cracked and the top was off...Does anyone know what that cannister is used for? There are plastic tubes going from compressor to this cannister.

I will try and upload a pic if that is possible.

Also...with this cracked cannister will that prohibit my airbags from getting inflated?
Any help will be extremely appreciated. I would like to order new cannister but I dont even know what it is called!!

Had a look on my Rave disc but can't find that canister is your's a series 1 disco as my disc is for TD5

to me it looks like a sort of storage, distrubution canister for the system,
somebody will be along soonthat will know

I have a series 2 discovery..Did I post this in the wrong section...sry if I did.
I will try and post a pic in the morning...we are having a blizzard right now and my truck is in the driveway covered in snow.

Hi there, I have the same canister on my TD5- the plastic pipe work carries air from the filter behind the right park light to the compressor. I believe the cannister it to be an evaporative container to remove large volumes of moisture before reaching the compressor. I don't believe crutical to the integrity of the ride hight. I don't belive it is under pressure.

I'm curious about the internal workings of the cannister, probably just baffolds like an exhaust. If you can get extra pics internally that would be cool.

I suggest silicon and tape. Use soap water on all other unions, look for bubbles.

If it's so then i sustain that it has nothing o do with airbags inflation/deflation ..... as it looks on the pic it's been in this condition for a while.

I did look inside and saw it was empty except for a small cannister no lid etc in it...
There are 2 lines coming from the cannister to this thing and two line going out but the lines are not connected.

Is there a post somewhere that is a step by step...how to test your air suspension system from A-Z?

I am at a loss as to why my truck wont go up anymore...Is there a way to check the height sensors?

and to check height sensors does the Rover need to be jacked up?

thanks for replies!!

Yes it is, but for that u must have a working compressor assy....first of all check fuse F11(30A) in engine bay, then SLS relay(R5) ...to make sure u can swap this reay with R8 which is from the heated front screen.
fuseboxed2.png

If F11 is blown u might have water ingress in the compressor....though this is not a reason to drop just that the compressor gets noisy and the fuse might blow.

Anyway make sure all doors/taildoor are closed when u turn ignition on otherwise it wont pump at all.

I think this is a water trap.

My thoughts are;
I is has had an impact and split, your compressor has bee sucking up sh*t that it did not like.
There has been water in side the water trap and it has frozen and cracked.

I seem to remember reading about this thing as not being a service part.

but any case I would by pass it and start looking at the compressor.

regards

Rob

I am sad I read this the other day SLS component layout in rave.

Air intake/Exhaust silencer
The air intake/exhaust silencer is located on the outside of the left hand chassis longitudinal, behind the air supply
unit. The silencer is an integral part of the SLS air harness and cannot be serviced individually.
The intake and exhaust air to and from the compressor passes through the silencer. The plastic moulded silencer has
two chambers. One chamber reduces system exhaust noise and the other dampens intake air pulses produced by
the compressor.

Ok, so it deffinately has nothing to do with ride height then;)

Yes and no.

If it is full of sh*t it may have blocked the line to or from the compressor.

If I was you I would try and by-pass it and see what happens as it is far from ideal the way it is.

U could be right with the line TO the compressor cos it might not get enough air to pump into the bags(not obvious)... but the line from the compressor is the exhaust which is released from the bags so if it's totally clogged(unlikely) eventually the bags will not deflate....nobody had probs with that untill now ;)

...as i said, fortunately my car is not fitted with this.

If you look back at the posts I added a section from the rave manual thingy. It does tie in with both it is a damper for the inlet and a silencer foe exhaust. Just words not pictures, I have not opened one up but would guess that it will have a diaphram of sorts to separtate the in and out gas a this will kill the noise and provide damping all in one. It seemed to be split far up so both might be open to all the crap under the car.

Once replaced, it would be nice to cut it in half and post the pictures so we can all have a look.

I am going to take it to a friends house today to take a look since today is a holiday and mostly everything is closed. I will try and get under and take some pics for you all to look at.
