Hi folks I have a 2005 L322, (06) Model) that has developed a suspension fault. The car drives fine with the suspension going up and down with no problems. As soon as the car is driven over 50mph, the air suspension lights turn off, I get an error (suspension fault) and the car slowly drops the bump stops. I get the tyres rubbing on the rear arches, as they are not standard and wider than the arches. As soon as I pull over turn the car off and turn it on again its fine as long as i don't go over 50mph. I can drive all day with no probs under 50
She's in today for a service and just off the phone with the mechanic, no faults showing up on diagnostics and all sensors look intact and attached. New compressor and both drivers side airbags done 1 yr ago. Any ideas folks Thanks

Don't go over 50mph:cool:

It shouldn't drop to motorway height until it gets to 62mph. Are you reading speed from dash or GPS device due to running bigger wheels? (yes I know bigger wheels will read slower speed):)
IMO you need to read the error codes while they are still showing i.e. before you restart the car. Have you got your own diagnostics?

Motorway Ride Height
Motorway ride height lowers the vehicle by 20 mm, and improves the high speed handling of the vehicle. Motorway
ride height is only active when the vehicle is travelling at more than 62 mph (100 km/h) for more than 30 seconds, and
is not selectable by the driver.
If the vehicle speed falls to below 43 mph (70 km/h) for more than 60 seconds, the ECU automatically returns the
vehicle to the standard ride height setting. If the vehicle stops while the motorway ride height is active, the timer is
paused, stopping the vehicle rising unnecessarily.

Cheers backinblack I don't have my own diagnostics (any recommendations) I was thinking it was a fault as it's never done it before at those speeds. Saw a suggestion to lock the ride height and try again but a bit dubious in trying that incase i ruin a tyre. Mainly thinking doing that to eliminate something else and maybe point to a faulty sensor or ecu requiring reprogramming.

I have a Foxwell NT510 Pro but that's been replaced by the NT530 now. Have a search for L322 diagnostics tool in the search bar as there's a few other options, Gap IID, Snapon, etc that I don't use.
IMO worth locking the suspension at normal and see what happens over 50mph, can't do any harm. Also maybe worth putting your head unit on 4x4 screen and see if you get any red markers on your height sensors, or strange things for the ride height.

Cheers I will try that when I get her back on Monday Thanks

Worth checking anyway but normal height would need to be set at less than 20mm off bump stops and I'm pretty sure my Foxwell won't set it that low, don't know about other diags though.

Hi just to add that if you lock the suspension height it will automatically raise the car or disable the lock once you get moving, can’t remember speed but it’s only around 10 mph from memory. Bell pings like mad to let you know you’re a muppet :p.
If you haven’t changed anything on the car before this became an issue I’d be looking for leaks in the air bags because your description is exactly what happened to my L322 when the bag developed a pin hole and it didn’t blow enough until moving. Worth a slop around with soapy water at all height settings I’d say. Good luck.
Tricky :)

Can you lock it on an L322? I thought it was not possible. You can lock at motorway or normal height on the P38 though.

Yes you can, I used it when I had a problem with my height sensor and it kept throwing up a fault when going to motorway height.

From rave manual.
When the vehicle is in standard ride height, the 'Hold' switch can be selected. This prevents automatic height changes
from taking place and disables manual height changes until the 'Hold' switch is deselected. If a height change is
selected with the hold function active, the standard height LED will flash.

Thanks for that:D

Update - I got the beast back from the garage (in for a service) yesterday after a few days of messing about with 3 wrong O2 sensors. Still the wrong one so another coming today fingers crossed. Also got a few codes up last night just after mot which I'm hoping is connected to the O2 sensor EML fault.

BTW he cleaned the old one and refitted it and it passed mot test last night. Anyway I took her for a scalp up the road over 60mph and suspension seems to have no problems at all. All I can think is that if he had her jacked up and checked the height sensors which he said were OK he has maybe freed up or loosened a problem one (if it was a sensor) Sorry I haven't got a definitive answer for problem solved..
