I was driving my TD5 from London back up to Scotland when I saw a large amount of smoke pouring out from behind me, I managed to pull in to a lay bye almost immediately and came to a stop..just..
I got out to find a **** load of oil dripping from pretty much the entire underside of the vehicle and all up the rear door and window !! I did start her up briefly to try reverse back a bit as I'd almost overshot the lay bye but no transmission.
Recovery guy didnt offer any usefull diagnosis apart from "your transmission's ****ed mate !! Have had the vehicle relayed back up home now but still not sure whats happened. I'm hoping its just a burst/separated cooler pipe as when I started it up again there is transmission oil (I think) running out from somewhere near front left of engine bay..
Any thoughts on what's likely gone wrong would be appreciated...
Cheers, Kev   :(

cooler pipes run up passenger side of engine ,if it was from box it wouldnt be getting to engine bay front ,

if theres no drive it must be transmission cooler, but the power steering pipes run across the front of the radiator and are prone to rusting through.

easy to check your PAS level and ACE level, if fitted.

cheers
