Being 38 but with 9 points, I knew it wasn't going to be an easy option. However Sureterm came up trumps. They beat the next cheapest competitor (Lancaster) by 50%

How have you managed to get 9 points at the age of 38???????? I'm 20 years on from you and never had a point on my licence in all that time.

Hi
Thats funny, i have been with sureterm for 4 years, and just got a renewal for my Disco 2 TD5 for £337 full comp (i'm 43).

Then i told them i just got 3 points 2 months ago, making a total of 6 (the other 3 are off in Feb 2013), and they then added another £900 to the £337 !!!!!

Not sure where to go now

Dave

Me three, Footman James refused to insure me if the vehicle was being used for offroad or green laning.

Sure term came in with the best quote of any of the insurers by £300

I'd use the price comparison sites. Even with 9 points plenty were around £300

Cheer up guys it could be worse. My neighbours 18 year old daughter just passed her test and the first quote she got was £6000 tpft for a 2002 ford ka. Her father eventually found a deal for £1600 tpft for a car that cost £750.

Well its no worse that when I passed my test 25 years ago.
Look at the wages we got then compared to today.
I was on £60 a week and my first car was a Vauxhall Viva that I bought for £60 and the insurance was £370 a year.
But today with the minimum wage its not much different.

I have had my 90 insured withsureterm for the last 3 years it cost me £90 pa fully comp,it went up by about £1 when i fitted a 200tdi engine! I am 45 but the 90 is 27 years old so its a classic and that brings the price down ,i also have a 3k mileage restriction but to be honest that does not give that much extra discount.

I was with Sureterm but then after I had a load of work done they said the alarm wasn't good enough so could no longer insure me... So I ended up going with Lancaster for about the same price and they where happy with the alarm..
The funny thing is I'm sure they are the same company as there postal address is the same. both in Lancaster house...

Despite my alarm/immob being original factory fitted, Lancaster wouldn't accept it. Bit daft as I live on a small island where vehicle theft is practically non-existent and many folk don't bother to lock their cars or houses up at all.
Anyway, Flux's were happy with the existing alarm and threw in some worthwhile extras; lower excess and no mileage limit (Lancs had wanted a 6k cap). Tot. prem for my Def110TD5 came out at 200 quid fully comp and I have no no claims. Seemed low enough so didn't bother to ring around any further.
