Hi all,

I use my Freelander as a work vehicle, not off road, the car doesn't have a sump guard fitted, but I'm thinking of putting one on, apart from the 'look' would it make a difference to the car to have one on?

Simon.

It's for mild off road protection only. I'v run mine for months at a time without it. It makes no difference on the road and is of limited use off road ;)

The standard fit guard int much good as there's a large sheet of thin plastic in the middle. Stronger versions are available (all metal) and do provide much betterer protection for oft road use. You can make a stronger one yerself.

The standard version was metal plate at the front, with metal bars at the side. the middle was plastic between the bars. If yours is 8mm one piece aliminuminim with a v cut at the from then it's made by man tec. LR sold these too I think.

Here's how a standard one looks.

This is a standard one I modified.

And here's a Mantec one.

I don't have any sump guard on my v6 hippo but I want one to modify. Are the standard factory fits all the same or do I have to get one off a v6

Sorry for thread revival but Mantec don't seem to make a sump guard for a 1998 Freelander 1 on there site only Freelander 2?

Hello all.

I was going to post a question on this subject so might as well get it out of the way here if thats OK.

Is it possible to fit the under tray/ sump guard with out a pit? I got my Freelander without one, and as my hobby takes me off road every weekend a lot of sh1t is being thrown into the belts etc.

Intend to Mod mine with chequer plate and fit a access panel for oil changes.

Cheers

Yes but it's easier if you buy some ramps from halfords or something to give you more space to get under.

Yes very easy to fit. I'm fat and can still get the sump guard on or off in 10 minutes. No ramp, jacks, hoists or pits needed.
