Edit: Having looked at yer post again, it looks as if yer wants a NEW Freelander, which would be a Freelander 2. All the stuff below in me post is for a Freelander 1.
FL2 have a really, really good reliability thus far*.
Things to check are rear main / golf club seals leaking from between the gearbox bellhousing and engine (clutch area). Slipping clutch (personal preference says auto's are better) and Rear Differential noise (at 70 when warm). Turn the steering to close to full lock (not quite on full lock), rev the engine by a few sequencial blips of the throttle. If you hear a whine, dont buy it.
